U-Arizona, Washington VC firm partner to commercialize research

The University of Arizona (UA) hopes to create more spinoff companies following a deal with The University Funds, a Bellevue, WA-based seed-stage venture development firm. The University Funds will license UA’s IP and build companies around UA innovations, according to Pat Murphy, the company’s co-founder and CEO. The University Funds is being structured as both a venture fund and an incubator that intends to build portfolio companies around the IP coming out of universities.

Taylor Wessing Releases Second Annual Global IP Index

Taylor Wessing released its second annual Global Intellectual Property Index Tuesday, which assessed 24 countries across the planet as the best and worst jurisdictions to obtain, exploit, enforce and attack particular types of IP. For the report, the law firm surveyed 495 global industry leaders. Sixty percent of respondents said their organizations spend more time on IP matters now than three years ago.

Studies in Intellectual Property and the Chinese legal system

The China Intellectual Property Summer Institute at Tsinghua University School of Law, Beijing which started in 2002, is a natural extension of the Intellectual Property Summer Institute which has been held at Franklin Pierce Law Center every summer since 1987. The Pierce-Tsinghua study abroad attracts law students (both JD and LLM), and practicing attorneys from the United States and a number of foreign jurisdictions. The curriculum is designed to introduce major themes and issues in intellectual property law and practice in China and their relationships to international trade, and to provide a deeper understanding of the dynamic changes taking place in China's information economy.
